Indian Mainstream Media ignores the Tibetan March 10th protests

The Indian media, print and online, has chosen to ignore the developing strong of the 'Return to Tibet' marchers, who were arrested by the police today near Dharamsala today. CNN meanwhile has a report up on the story and a video of the police arresting the marchers is available online as well.

Is the silence mere apathy to the Tibetan cause, or is it fear of backlash from the Indian Government which is keen to continue good relations with China. A commentor on Rashmi Bansal's post on the March to Tibet had written in "You would except Tibetans to have a little gratitude towards the sheltering country at least". Some of his ilk may think I am behaving like a "namak haram", living in India and criticising the Indian Government. But this is the privilege of living in a true democracy. The freedom to air your views and protest against injustice. One can only hope that the Tibetan Marchers will be allowed this.

"Several hundred monks clashed with Chinese police near the Tibetan capital, Lhasa, on Tuesday, according to RFA. RFA is a private, nonprofit corporation that broadcasts in several East Asian languages to people without access to independent media.

It was the second day of protests by monks on the 49th anniversary of a failed uprising against Beijing that forced the Dalai Lama into exile. He now lives in northern India. The protests coincided with other demonstrations by Tibetan exiles in New Delhi, India and Katmandu, Nepal." (exerpt)
